I. Before We Put It on a Coffee Mug01/06
Nobody likes this verse when they're the one who's been hurt. Jesus knew that. He said it anyway.
II. What's Happening Here?02/06
Jesus drops this line right after teaching the Lord's Prayer. He is not adding a legal condition to God's forgiveness. He is describing the kind of heart that has actually received it. A person truly forgiven usually cannot help but start forgiving.
III. What It Actually Means03/06
Forgiveness is not saying it didn't matter. It is refusing to let the offense keep charging you rent in your own head. That takes time. It usually takes God.
IV. Carry This Today04/06
Name one person you have been holding an unpaid bill against. Not to excuse them—just to notice.
V. Think About It
Who are you still trying to make pay for something Jesus already paid for?
VI. A Simple Prayer
God, You know exactly what was done to me. I am not pretending it didn't hurt. Give me the courage to loosen my grip, even a little, today. Amen.
